In Malaysia there are many small and wonderful islands located around Phuket. These islands can be accessed from Phuket in one or two hours. Some of these islands give terrific sites for snorkeling and scuba diving and they also have good beaches for relaxing. One such place is Similan Islands.

The Similan Islands comprises of nine islands. This place attracts both divers and also the non-divers. Similan islands are considered as one of the best spots for diving in world. You can also go for snorkeling on these islands. For those not interested in diving can go on hikes in jungles or just relax on the sandy clean beaches and enjoy the view of the breathtaking ocean. The Similians along with all its reefs have successfully recovered from the overuse and earlier calamities. The boats entering the island have to follow rules imposed by the national park officials.

Many tourists while visiting Thailand don’t spend too much time in Bangkok, the capital city. These people find traffic and pollution wearing them down. So they opt for places which will get them away from the busy streets of Bangkok. One place they like to visit is Kanchanaburi.

Kanchanaburi is situated on the banks of river Kwai. The small town is known most famously for the location it provided as POW camp in the World War 2 and also for the bridge. This bridge was destroyed by the allied forces and the whole event was immortalized in the David Lean movie called Bridge on the River Kwai. There are many World War 2 sites in the town and in the region close by. These sites can be accessed by trekking, cycling and rafting which avails the beautiful river scenery and appealing raft house accommodation.

Thailand is famous for the fantastic temples and souvenirs and ruins of the fantastic ancient kingdoms. Sukhothai was the earliest kingdom of Thailand. It was built around the Sukhothai city. It was the capital of the Siam region. It is situated in the north central Thailand. The kingdom was in existence in thirteenth and fourteenth century. The ancient city of Sukhothai dates back to the thirteenth century. At that time Sukhothai was a part of Khmer kingdom. It was also recognized as Thai ruled empire before the Thai chieftains’ Pho Khun Bang Klang Hao and Pho Khun Pha Muang announced their independent kingdom in the Thailand region.

It is a magnificent example of wise city planning. The city was enlivened with beautiful lakes and lovely elegant statues of Buddha. The sets of ruins are conserved nowadays as historical places. The historic town of Sukhothai is one of the five UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Chiang Mai is not like the rest of Thailand in the sense that it is cold due to the high altitude. This region is famous for the trekking trails. These treks can vary from a short day hike to a trek lasting few days. Chiang Mai is also famous for the hill tribes which live in the mountain region. Some members of this hill tribe can be seen in Chiang Mai as well selling wares. They wear exotic and colorful costumes and innocent wide eyed smiles. If you want to avoid the strenuous trekking for exploring the hills, you can hire a car with four wheel drive. You can enjoy the scenic beauty of the steep hills and experience this remote area of Thailand.

Most people prefer to fly here from Bangkok but if you have sufficient time, taking the train is one attractive option.

The Phuket Island is one of most popular tourist attractions of Thailand. The reason behind this is the presence of many beautiful beaches. Phuket has lot of pretty white sand beaches and these are located on the west coast of Phuket Island.

Some of the beaches include Nai Harn beach. This beach is spectacular and is not too crowded. Food and stay is relatively cheap. Then there is the Surin beach which has some of the best seafood restaurants on the island. Patong beach is one of the busiest beaches in Phuket. You will get many activities here such as jet skiing, parasailing and water skiing. You will also enjoy shopping here. And at last the Kata beach which is one of the longest beaches in Phuket. The Andaman Sea is generally calm during the tourist season. During the low season however you will see some surfers hanging around.
